  • Newark Penn Station (downtown Newark) offers connects to the subway to NYC (PATH), NJ Transit trains and buses, Amtrak, Greyhound, Bolt Bus, and light rail
  • New Jersey Devils Hockey and Prudential Center: 5-minute walk from Newark Penn Station
  • New Jersey Performing Arts Center: 10-minute walk from Newark Penn Station or 1 stop on Raritan Valley (NJPAC) light rail line.
  • Newark Museum: 15-minute walk from Newark Penn Station or 2 stops on the North Jersey Coast Line (Washington Street) light rail line.

There are also six major highways, offering access to, through, and around Newark:

  • NJ Turnpike: This north-south highway runs along the eastern edge of the city with Exits 13A, 14, 15E, and 15W serving Newark and providing easy access to New York City through the Holland, Lincoln Tunnels, and the George Washington Bridge.
  • I-78: This interstate highway, along with US Route 22, runs east-west along the southern end of Newark, borders the airport, and provides access to the western suburbs and the NJ Turnpike.
  • US 1/9: Also known as the Pulaski Skyway, this highway runs north-south through the southern part of the city and leads directly to the Holland Tunnel. (Northbound lanes: currently undergoing rehabilitation)
  • I-280: This highway bisects Newark and connects the NJ Turnpike to I-80 and points north and west.
  • Route 21: Newark’s primary artery, along with Broad Street, this thoroughfare runs from the airport through the heart of the city to US 46.
  • Garden State Parkway: Many exits from the parkway connect to Newark’s downtown, neighborhoods, airport, and seaport.
