Newark Public Library is holding its 9th Annual Philip Roth Lecture, featuring poet, author, and translator John Keene. Keene is a MacArthur Genius Grant winner and associate professor of English, African American Studies, and African Studies at Rutgers University–Newark.

The annual lecture, which features a literary luminary, was established in honor of “son of Newark” Philip Roth. Keen’s lecture and conversation is “Roth and Baraka: Two Visions.”

Newark Public Library is the home of the Philip Roth Personal Library, a collection of the great American author’s 7,000 books and personal memorabilia. Roth provided Newark Public Library with a generous endowment, which is supporting many programs throughout the library. The Philip Roth Lecture is part of his gift.
