Be sure to come out for the largest and most diverse outdoor market in Newark!
This season marks the 19th year for the NDD Common Greens Farmers Market—the largest and most diverse outdoor market in Newark! The market is held at the old PSE&G Plaza every Thursday from 11:00 am to 3:00 pm until October 31.
The NDD Common Greens Farmers Market accepts SNAP, WIC, and Senior Citizen Program Vouchers and is within the Nourishing Newark Farmers Markets network. The NDD partners with the Garden State Good Food Network to offer “Double Bucks” and provides double the purchasing power to SNAP customers, enabling participants to purchase double the amount of fresh fruits and vegetables.
The NDD also partners with the Newark CEDC to host a vendor each week by providing a satellite location for their Newark Shoppes initiative. Last year the Newark CEDC held its Shop Newark Launch at the NDD Common Greens Farmers Market, where it provided live music, guest speakers, and on-site applications for community members to join the Shop Newark program.

On Saturday, November 30, 2019, the NDD will kick off the holiday season with its 6th Annual Holiday Tree Lighting in Washington Park. The tree is moving to a new location this year and will take up residence in the center of Washington Park throughout the holiday season.
The celebration will take place from 4:00 pm to 8:00 pm and will feature photos with Santa and his Elves as well as popular children’s characters. There will be opportunities to sing along with Victorian carolers, dance to a live DJ, watch ice-carving demonstrations, and enjoy holiday-themed arts and crafts, bounce houses, and a trackless train.
The park will be filled with food trucks and community partners offering complimentary hot beverages to keep attendees warm. The festivities will begin at 4:00 pm and at 5:30 pm, Anthony McMillan, CEO of the NDD, and the Honorable Mayor Ras J. Baraka, will do the honors of lighting the 40-foot tree.
Thanks to the collaboration of the City of Newark, Newark Police Department, Newark Public Schools, Audible, and the Washington Park Conservancy, the NDD is looking forward to a night of fun-filled holiday cheer for Newark residents.
