New Jersey Department of Transportation (NJDOT)
NJDOT is responsible for transportation issues and policy in New Jersey, such as maintaining and operating the State’s highway and public road system, planning and developing transportation policy, and assisting with rail, freight, and intermodal transportation issues.
It is headed by the commissioner of transportation, Diane Gutierrez-Scaccett.

New Jersey Transit
NJ TRANSIT is New Jersey’s public transportation corporation. Its mission is to move New Jersey and the region by providing safe, reliable, and affordable public transportation that connects people to their everyday lives, one trip at a time.
Covering a service area of 5,325 square miles, NJ TRANSIT is the nation’s third-largest provider of bus, rail, and light rail transit, linking major points in New Jersey, New York, and Philadelphia. The agency operates an active fleet of 2,221 buses, 1,231 trains, and 93 light rail vehicles. On 253 bus routes and 12 rail lines statewide, NJ TRANSIT provides nearly 270 million passenger trips each year.

The North Jersey Transportation Planning Authority (NJTPA)
The NJTPA is the federally authorized Metropolitan Planning Organization (MPO) for 7 million people in the 13-county northern New Jersey region. Each year, the NJTPA oversees more than $2 billion in transportation improvement projects and provides a forum for interagency cooperation and public input. It also sponsors and conducts studies, assists county planning agencies, and monitors compliance with national air quality goals.
The NJTPA GIS and Data Resources portal provide datasets that are commonly requested by counties and state planning agencies. The datasets include spatial data, tabular data, web maps, and web applications and are free to download and use.

The Open Data portal promotes the government’s openness, transparency, and accountability by providing high-value government data in a standard compliant, machine-readable format. This will serve as the basis for the creation of useful civic applications by third-party developers.
