The market is held every Thursday from 11:00 am to 3:00 pm. In 2022, it will run from June 2 through October 13.

Where is the market held?

The market is held at the PSE&G/Prudential Plaza, a large, open-air space located at 80 Park Place in Newark, NJ.

What happens if it rains?

The market is held every week from June through October. In the event of a weather forecast calling for heavy rain, the market will be cancelled and will resume the following week. 

What else is near the market?

The market is located in the heart of Downtown Newark, convenient to office buildings such as PSE&G and Prudential, venues such as the Prudential Center and New Jersey Performing Arts Center, Military Park, and a multitude of Downtown shops and businesses.

Is there shade?

The plaza is surrounded by large, mature trees that ring the plaza and provide plenty of cooling shade on a hot day.

Is there entertainment?

Every week, the NDD brings in a different local musician or band to perform throughout the duration of the market. Musical styles range all the way from folk to soul.

Is the market accessible to public transportation?

Newark is an extremely accessible city! The Military Park Light Rail station is adjacent to the plaza. Newark Penn Station is 3 blocks away. And NJTransit buses 13, 24, 27, 29, 30, 39, 41, 44, 59, 71, 72, 73, 76, 78, 79, 108, and 378 all stop within a block of the market.

Where can I park?

There are several public parking lots within a few blocks of the market (look for parking information here). There is also on-street parking and parking for vendors is directly adjacent to the plaza.

Can I apply to be a vendor?

Yes! The NDD Downtown Market Vendor Application is located here. If approved, spots at the market are open to home-based businesses, those looking to expand into a brick-and-mortar, or already-established businesses in Newark or elsewhere. Are the vendors inspected?

Every vendor at the market undergoes a thorough inspection by the City of Newark.The permit required by the City includes an application, doctor’s note, warrant check, and Health and Fire Department certification (if applicable).

Will there be a farmer at the 2022 market?

The NDD is proud to once again be partnering with the Urban Agriculture Cooperative (urbanagriculturecooperative.org). In addition to hosting a farm stand at the NDD Downtown Market, the Urban Agriculture Cooperative sponsors an online market that sells fruits, veggies, flowers, herbs, baked goods, eggs, and some specialty items. There is a pickup point for the online market located in Downtown Newark.

The NDD and Urban Agriculture Cooperative are also looking forward to hosting enrichment programs at the market such as food demos or nutritionists.

What kinds of vendors are at the market?

There are a host of other offerings at the market, including organic desserts, beauty and bath products, artisanal jewelry, accessories, cultural apparel, and more! Returning for 2022, a host of food vendors will be at the market weekly.

How do I get a tote bag?

The NDD offers free, reusable shopping bags. Just visit the yellow NDD kiosk located right at the center of the market to sign up on the mailing list and get a free bag, as well as other seasonal giveaways.

Does the market accept vouchers?

The market accepts SNAP, WIC, and Senior Citizen Program Vouchers. In addition, the market partners with the Garden State Good Food Network to offer “Double Bucks,” which enable participants to purchase double the amount of fresh fruits and produce at half the price.
