View from the Top: The National Newark Building
Downtown Newark has no shortage of tall buildings, but none are taller than the National Newark Building located at 744 Broad Street. This 465.01 feet tall art deco style building was constructed in 1931 and stands 35 stories high. It was the tallest building in New Jersey when it opened.
With major cities comes skyscrapers, and with skyscrapers, comes breathtaking views. The view from the National Newark Building is like no other in the city. It’s also not something most residents and commuters get to experience. Fortunately, the Building Manager, Marie Moore, sits on a Newark Downtown District Committee and our intern was granted exclusive access to the 33rd floor, 34 and 35 were closed. She also toured the Mezzanine of the building, which is currently under construction, but often used for weddings, banquets, bar mitzvahs and other events.
